The Brook Forest Inn is the last remaining resort hotel in Evergreen. The original part of the structure is 101 years old. The Wetz's, both European and chefs, bought the property in the 1920's. The property was already called Brook Forest and the road became known as Brook Forest Road. In 1935 the Brook Forest Post Office became part of the Inn. The Pine Cone Room was constructed from quartz from New Mexico. Transporting the quartz down the narrow road from County Rd 73 was so difficult and laborious that Edwin Wetz made a sign saying, "The Road to Heaven is not easy either." The formal dining room is constructed of quartz from a quarry in Kittredge. There were three quartz fireplaces, one was redone in white marble in the 70's. The Brook Forest has 19 beautiful guest rooms and is open year round. During the decades that the Wetz's owned the Inn there was a swimming pool, a tennis court, and stables, as well as guest cottages, a chicken coop, and fish hatchery. The property was subdivided and sold as private residences in the 60's. The Brook Forest Inn is charming (and romantic) and has a rich history. It is beloved by Evergreen and everyone has a wedding or honeymoon story, a story of family and holiday tradition that evolve around the elegant dining room.
The Brook Forest Inn has entered into a new chapter. Jon Barton purchased the Inn in August and immediately began to update the kitchen, restoring the wood floors and bringing the Inn back to its original beauty. Larry Cotton is the Head Chef, and of course "Mama" (Maria) is the Sou Chef, the other Chef is Jason, who has been creating gourmet dishes for 18 years. Larry Cotton is famous in Evergreen for his popular restaurant Stefanzo's. Jon and Larry have created a menu that includes Wild Boar Chops, Buffalo Tenderloin, and Lobster Ravioli.
Denise (who grew up in Evergreen) and Jerry Bandel are two of the many people who visit the Brook Forest Inn several times a year. They drove up from Denver for their annual dinner at the Inn.
Laurie Baumer is the wedding and event coordinator. She's already working with Alissa Skildheim and Allison Dickson on a fundraiser for the Marshdale PTA on Feburary 26. The theme of the event and silent auction is Night In Monte Carlo. For information on this fundrasing event please call 303-459-2015.
Linda Morris will be writing and facilitating the Menu for Murder Dinners and The Brook Forest Inn already has one for November. The Menu for Murder Dinners are not dinner theater and are written for private groups of 14 to 40 guests. The group chooses a theme and time period, roaring 20's, disco 70's, etc. and the murder mystery is 'written just for them." There are no actors, each guest is a character. The guests search the Inn for clues, guns, and bodies. There are three ways to win: solve the murder, have the most guns, or the most blackmail money. Menu for Murder can also be written for larger groups as a funraising event. For more information contact Miss CeeCee Clueless (Linda) at 303-946-9454.
Of course there will be a Halloween party with the Brain Hornbuckle Band featuring Johnny Vaugh. Book your rooms now. 303-679-1521.
