And then there's Sunday in Evergreen.
Sunday was the Wine Tasting at the Evergreen Rodeo Grounds to benefit Bootstraps, The Town Race, and the Deer Creek Challenge, the Evergreen Art Festival and the Mountain Peace Shelter's tea.
A Bit Daring!
As Summer comes to a close, its time to start putting together something to wear to the countless galas, fundraisers and Holiday parties. Mona, the owner of Dare Boutique, in Bergen Village, has an eye for fashion. She buys in small quantities and never orders the same piece twice. The staff at Dare Boutique can assist you in expressing your personal style. This is an uptown boutique with small town warmth and charm.
More about Saturday in Evergreen
Saturday and Sunday was the Evergreen Artist Association's 44th Evergreen Fine Arts Festival. The event is held at Heritage Grove Park in a grove of Evergreen's oldest trees. The festival is a collection of the best mix media art. View more on the Evergreen Fine Arts Festival website and mark your calenders for next year.
This Weekend in Evergreen - Saturday
Saturday morning Drive Smart of Evergreen/Conifer and the State Patrol offered a check point for your children's car seat. Often these are not installed properly. Drive Smart has been dedicated to saving lives for fifteen years and the numbers are proof that their efforts have paid off. Please check out their website www.drivesmarte-c.org
This Weekend in Evergreen - Friday
Friday afternoon was a time for the Board of Directors and the Ambassadors of the Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce to get together in a casual atmosphere. We all interact at the Mixers and other events but at those times our focus is on insuring that the guests are having a good time, are networking, and everything is going smoothly. This was also a time of special thanks to Melanie Nuchols by the Chamber Board of Directors. And what better way to thank her than with gift certificates for a boutique and for the Bistro at Marshdale. The Ambassadors extended their appreciation to Betsy Hays. She is most businesses first contact with the Chamber and she explains the benefits and advantages of being a member. John Ellis presented her with a gift certificate to Tuscany Tavern and to Rio Del Sol. Both restaurants have supported the Chamber by donating food to the Info Mixer. We try to give back to the businesses that are Chamber members and always Shop Local. The Chamber is more than a Chamber of Commerce it is a Chamber of the Community.
After a few glasses of wine John Ellis was elected the Mayor of Evergreen by an unanimous vote.

Rio Del Sol is a local gathering place in the Heart of Evergreen. Kurt, Elise, and Clayton were among the dinner guests enjoying a quiet Tuesday evening out. It has none of the rustic wood, elk pictures or Western flair that the tourist crave. Rio Del Sol has bold colors and fine art on the walls. It has a impressive selection of wines and has a martini menu. Happy Hour is 7 days a week making this a favorite of their business neighbors. The food is Mexican with a gourmet flair. Rio Del Sol has a small patio off the bar and has live music on Thursday night.

Tea Time
The Mountain Peace Shelter is hosting its 2nd annual tea, Sunday, August 29, 3:00-5:00pm at Evergreen Lutheran Church at 5980 Hwy 73. This is a charming afternoon of tea, incredibly sinful snacks, music and sundresses.
Mountain Peace Shelter was founded in 1986 as the Park County Crisis Center. It provides shelter and resources for women and children seeking refuse from violent domestic situations. This is a private, nonprofit agency funded by grants and private donations. The number of women and children seeking refuse has increased over the last couple of years. Abuse is a complicated subject, it happens more often than you realize. It knows no economic barriers, one in three women will become a victim of domestic abuse. It takes courage for women to leave. They are often threatened with death and feel they have no place to go. Part of abuse is eliminating resources such as money and contact with family and friends. I cannot stress enough that this involves children living in a home environment of fear and pain, an environment that is teaching them this is how people treat other people. Mountain Peace Shelter offers a safe place and the tools and resources for a new start. Mountain Peace Shelter offers hope.
Sunday's tea is only $20.00, the price of a Sunday Brunch. This is a small investment with big returns. You are helping a woman, a child have a positive, productive life without fear.

Last Call
Saturday night was the wake for The Wild Eye Gallery, formerly located in the Heart of Evergreen. Local artists, business owners, members of the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Association, and high school friends gathered at the Stagecoach Sports Grill to pay their respects and toast Dennis and Joan Dunn. It is so vital to the future of our community to support our local businesses. I know when you work in Denver it is easy to shop in the malls, but the impact on Evergreen is reflected in the empty store fronts. Both the Chamber and the Downtown Business Association are open to what you as a consumer want from the local businesses. They cannot communicate your needs to the businesses if you do not tell them. Investing in and sustaining our quality of community is easy, tell us what you want and please shop locally. This is more than your neighborhood - it is your town.

Oh, Baby! Family Veterinary!
Baby is a new patient at Family Veterinary Hospital, located at 3951 Evergreen Parkway. Dr. Kevin Inman and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Lawrence met while attending Colorado State. They worked for a large Veterinary Hospital in California where they realized that their philosophy and working style was more suited to a small town. Kevin grew up in the area and his parents still live here. ( His brother Brian, is the coach at Clear Creek High School). They believe that the patients owners should be as involved as possible, they educate them on the procedures and alternatives available. Family Veterinary has a "comfort room" to allow a quiet place for their clients to retreat when the hard decisions have to be made. As parents the have made Family Veterinary kid friendly. There is a play area, a coloring area and they offer juice and snacks for the kids. They allow children in the exam room and provide little lab jackets and stethoscopes. Kevin became interested in becoming a vet around the age of nine when Dr. Doug Hill allowed him to say good by to his beloved dog. Kevin brings that lesson in compassion into his working relationship with his clients and patients.

The Expected and the Unexpected.
Pine Country Feed in Pine is filled with surprises. It has all the
things you would expect to find in a country feed store, hay, feed for horses, cows and chickens. Pine Country Feed carries tack, horse blankets and saddles. They take saddles on consignment. There's no fluff or fancy displays in their dog food and supply section, just reasonable prices and a large selection. You will find custom belts handing next to fly swatters and Montana Sliver Company watches. Upstairs is home accessories, art, and clothing. I've been noticing the ladies in Evergreen wearing colorful little dresses with their cowboy boots. It's a very cute and comfortable look, that's how I discovered Pine Country Feed. They've been buying their clothes there. The dog got dog food and biscuits, I got a dress, and picked up a house warming gift.
